The Girl Who Was on Fire
9 JanHappy 2012!
3 JanI hope everyone had a wonderful New Year’s Eve, and is enjoying 2012 so far! As part of a few changes I’m going to be making, I redesigned my entire photo website. No more clunky thumbnails! I’m so happy with it, and think it presents my work in a much more beautiful setting.

See it at www.rachelscroggins.net
I’ll be posting a lot more in the coming weeks (hello, New Year’s resolution!), so expect some fun new photos, and some NYFW catchup posts that got lost somewhere in my absolutely crazy 2011.
California Dreaming
16 NovEarlier this month, I took advantage of some free air miles I’d earned since moving to NYC, and flew out to San Francisco, to visit some friends and do some sightseeing.
I loved all of the amazing architecture around the city, especially all of the old Victorian houses, and the Painted Ladies around Alamo Square Park.

Aleister Crowley’s old house. Creepy!
I was lucky enough to catch the Alameda Point Antiques Fair that weekend, where I picked up some amazing vintage pieces, like an old kimono, a sari, and some Japanese paper art prints.

There was plenty of cool old “junk” for sale.

My friend Eliza modeling an old hat.

A much different kind of fur coat.

A wannabe Marty McFly, hitching a ride.

Eliza’s dog Colonel Mustard, post-flea trip.
Later in the week, I did more sightseeing:

I managed to battle the Muni (bus system) and get to the Golden Gate on my own!

Australian tourists took my photo.

I walked half-way across the bridge.
Then I made it to Chinatown:

Bought plenty of souvenirs. But not this strange pillow I saw on display.

The tiny little underground map.

Not pictured: the hippy drum circle playing in the park.
I met up with Julio (who I’ve known since 2005, via my first blog, but had never met in person!) for some insanely cheap vintage shopping:

Sadly, he did not buy this jacket.
I took home 2 old lacy lingerie inspired tops and a dress –all for TEN DOLLARS– via a vintage by the pound store.
On our way home, we stopped by Clarion Alley to photograph the beautiful street art that lines the entire alley:
We saw quite a few artists in action:

While it’s safe to say things like thrift shopping and even street art are better on the west coast, by the end of the week, I couldn’t be happier to be a New Yorker, and be heading home. I missed the big city, the ease of (nearly) all-encompassing public transportation, and the hustle and bustle of New York life.
California was fun, but the trip really affirmed by choice to move to the East Coast over 5 years ago, instead of heading out west.
* I also shot some street style while I was on vacation, which will hopefully be up on StyledOn in the near future.

15 SepDIY Nail Art Editorial for StyledOn.com
19 JulA few weeks ago, I spent a day with the ladies of StyledOn, photographing a DIY Nail Art editorial– featuring some gorgeous and surprisingly easy nail art designs! The step by step guide just went live today, and it looks beautiful. I learned some helpful tips and tricks for doing my own nails at the shoot, so I’m really excited to try out all of the DIY’s.
See the full feature with step by step photos here. They’re also running a DIY nail art contest!

Street Style Flashback: Claire
11 JulIn celebration of today being Red Head Appreciation Day, I’ve chosen another redhead, Claire as my second SSF subject. Not only does Claire have amazing hair, but she’s also the mastermind behind De Lune, and a blogger friend of mine.

Street Style Flashback: Coco Rocha
11 JulI have dozens of street style photos that I’ve never shared. Maybe they weren’t picked up by a client, or they were shot in that in between time when I was just shooting for myself. I hate seeing them disappear into Flickr obscurity, so I’ll be posting regular updates with some of my “flashback” street style images.
For the first post, I’ve decided to start things off with a bang. Here’s Coco Rocha, looking flawless, as usual.

Fall Fashion: Styled On
13 NovI am absolutely head over heels for this Fall fashion editorial I shot for Styled On. The editorial went live Friday, and as soon as I arrived home to see it, I couldn’t stop playing the slide show over and over. I’ve been more than happy with every editorial I’ve shot so far, but this one has got to be my favorite.
Starring Styled On members Leandra Medine—AKA Man Repeller, and Abbie Houck, it features plenty of red hot fall looks… and these are just sneak peaks!
See the full editorial here.

Chanel Ad Campaign: Grazia Scans
13 MayFinally received some PDF’s of my Chanel features in Grazia! I didn’t get one of the two page feature in Grazia UK, and the layout is a bit large for my scanner. So that one has to wait. But here are two of my four (yes four! Grazia India recently purchased a few images as well!) layouts:
Grazia Australia:

Early next week, I hope to get back to regular posting. I’m still in Indiana (actually snagging as much internet time as I can at Panera while I eat lunch) with no internet access other than my blackberry. While I’m online for a short bit, I wanted to say thank you to everyone for the kind words about my Aunt, who I came home to see. She passed away early Wednesday morning. I unfortunately didn’t make it down to see her in time, but other family members did. So thank you again for the sympathies, and understanding why blogging isn’t my main focus right now.
I’ll be back soon. <3
