As many of you may have already heard, I went to Kingston, Jamaica last month to photograph Style Week Jamaica for StyledOn. The awesome team over at Fashion Art Gallery brought creative director Casey and I, along with an entire crew of stylists, journalists, designers, and hair stylists to Jamaica for a long weekend covering the event.
Our long weekend in Jamaica was chock full of beach and pool time, good drinks, and surprisingly great fashion. I ended up shooting nearly five thousand photos on our trip (despite breaking my favorite 50mm lens a few days prior.) Here is part one of the photos I shot the first few days of our trip.
We got in to Jamaica around midnight, but still made a pit stop at a local bar before heading to our hotel.
We met up with Claire from The Fashion Bomb, who was looking fabulous!
We had a very late dinner at a local jerk chicken fast food restaurant (which was way more exciting and better tasting than American fast food), then totally crashed at the hotel.
The next morning, we had a leisurely day at the pool, relaxing and recovering from our previous day of travel.
After dinner, we headed over to Devon House, a Jamaican historical site for the International Men’s Collection show.
I don’t have the most educated opinion of men’s fashion, but I can say everything was unexpectedly colorful:
A few of us went inside to check out Devon House—which was actually quite creepy. Upstairs, one room in particular gave our entire group the chills. I’ve never experienced such an intense feeling of “wrong-ness” in a place before. It really freaked me out!
Saturday afternoon, we had a guided tour of local Kingston shopping areas.
After our shopping excursion, we were ready for the beach! We went to the very local, un-touristy Hellshire Beach. Where we were immediately greeted by a multitude vendors offering fresh seafood:
Jayda going wild!
Back in one of the shacks, we met a local artisan, while everyone waited for their lobster dinner to cook:
I didn’t eat any, as I am not a fan of fish, and allergic to shellfish. But I hear it was delicious! And cheap. Right before we left for our hotel, the entire beach experienced a blackout. It was pretty intense trying to find our way back to our vans in the darkness. I wondered where all the wild dogs and goats that seemed to be everywhere were then!
Check back soon for more images from the women’s fashion show!
