The NY fashion week frenzy may have died down, but now the real excitement begins for me: sorting through all the photos I shot of the collections. Starting with Oscar de la Renta seemed to be a natural choice, with it being one of my favorite collections of the week, and including some of the prettiest photos I shot this season.
I’m always shocked at despite the fact that NYFW can be non-stop craziness, there is such a comforting sense of calm at Oscar. Even during the sometimes hectic backstage prep, models and crew were happy, with not an upset staffer, or single frown in site.
Gucci Westman for REVLON once again created a look that perfectly complimented the girliest collection I’ve seen from Oscar so far. Rosy pink cheeks and lips synced perfectly with the winter pastels, ballerina inspired dresses, and big teased “bobbed” hair style from Orlando Pita.
After a short chat about “girls who don’t ever smile” with some of the models backstage, they got extra goofy for my camera:
With only a short time left before the show was to start, I ventured over to the dressing area to get a closer look at the collection:
I made it back out to the runway just in time!
This season, I tried something different: shooting the runway with my 50mm lens, to get more of each outfit in the frame. Not sure if I’ll attempt it again next time, but it’s a nice change to see the full look. Because Oscar’s collections are always so impeccable— from head to toe!
It’s easy to see why, of the five Oscar de la Renta shows I’ve photographed so far, this is my hands down favorite. (Followed closely by the Picasso inspired Resort 2012 collection.) I can’t wait to see what comes next!
Fun fact: after the show, we spotted Anna Wintour, who arranged for a personal fitting with Maria Sharapova trying on looks straight off the runway.
