Naeem Khan featured one of my favorite backstage beauty looks of the SS13 season. During a week when many shows featured straight, slicked back hair, and (in my opinion) boring “natural” makeup, the dark eye-catching makeup, and unique take on a traditional bun/ponytail was a revelation.
NARS Director of Global Artistry James Boehmer created a look featuring matte skin, heavy brows, that was punctuated by dark, glossy lips. The inspiration for the look: the former Duchess of Windsor, Wallis Simpson.
The idea was to have the models look “chic, elegant, and beautiful” with ultra matte powdered skin, with no shine. Brows were very defined, and elongated to drams the face. Only mascara was used on eyes. According to Boehmer this look was “all about the lips”, an effect created by layering multiple red lip liners, pencils, and gloss.
Products used to achieve this gorgeous look:
Sheer Matte Foundation
Radiant Creamy Concealer (out Spring 2013)
Light Reflecting Setting Powder (out Spring 2013)
To get the look: hair was blow dried with a flat brush to smooth the texture. After parting hair in the center, it was sprayed with Bumble and Bumble Prep, followed to by Bumble and Bumble Shine Spray to smooth any stray hairs.
Hair was secured in a low pony tail with an elastic band, with the end of the pony doubling up over top. The remaining hair was wrapped around the base to create the “loop” with no visible elastic.
Dashing Diva lead manicurist Patti Yankee used Dashing Diva ColorFX nail transfer strips in “Take a Bite” to create a striking half-moon manicure.
