BETSEY JOHNSON S/S 2013: BACKSTAGE

BETSEY JOHNSON S-S 2013 BACKTAGE-29

The atmosphere backstage at Betsey Johnson is always more like a party than the hectic pre-show environment of most fashion shows. It’s the one show where models and press actually sip champagne, and munch on mini cupcakes, just like I always imagined fashion shows to be when I was growing up.

Another thing the show had in common with my childhood– crimped hair! Betsey herself served as the inspiration for the wild, chunky crimped look, created by AVEDA lead hair stylist John Reyman.

To get the look:
Hair was sectioned off, and then crimped. Repeatedly. Control Force Hairspray was used for hold, and the process was repeated until hair reached the proper stiffness.

Hair was tousled right before the models hit the runway to give it an “80’s rock and roll video” look.

Maybelline lead makeup artist Gato was inspired by “super heroes and pinups”, creating this season’s dramatic cat eye and red lip.

To get the look:
Eyes were painted yellow, and lined in an exaggerated cat eye shape using Maybelline 24HR Color Tattoo. Master Precise Liquid Ink Pen Eyeliner in black was used to create a dramatic brow. Lashes were coated liberally with Falsies Flared Mascara. The look was completed with the application of Very Cherry Red Lipstick, topped off with red glitter.
