KAREN WALKER S/S 2016

Untitled

Karen Walker impresses me season after season with her fun, quirky take on clothes that are– gasp!– actually wearable. While I love avant garde fashion, or flowing gorgeous ballgowns as much as the next girl, it’s nice to see impeccably designed clothing that is suitable for everyday wear, and affordable.

The fact that designs some of the best sunglasses around also helps.

And like many of my other favorite designers, Karen has fun with her collections’ themes and inspiration. For Spring, that inspiration was “life in Zvedzny Gorodok, AKA Star City” in the Soviet Union. Once a secret city where Soviet astronauts lived, little details such as spate suite-esque zippers, utilitarian garments, and star shaped earrings helped visualize that inspiration.

The Sephora PRO team translated the astronaut/space theme into a glam look, featuring an enchanting blue eye.

The products used to get the look were:
Dior Glow Maximizing Primer
Josie Maran Argan Infinity Creamy Oil
Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Invisible COver Foundation
Sephora Collection Smoothing Translucent Setting Powder
Sephora Collection Colorful Eyeshadow in Diamonds are Forever
Marc Jacobs Beauty Highliner Gel Crayon in Blue Me Away
Sephora Collection Rouge Cream Lip Stick in Love Life

The makeup was applied using the new Sephora Collection Karen Walker Beauty Brush set.

For the nails, the inimitable manicurist Jin Soon used a muted metallic gold, which mimicked a slightly gilded nude nail.

To get the look: JINsoon Power Coat base coat was applied to prep the nails. Followed by two coats of JINsoon Cachet, and finished with JINsoon Top Gloss top coat.

Finally, for hair, Laurent Philippon for Bumble and Bumble created a boyish, utilitarian look, with a fun, rolled back.

Untitled

To get the look:
1. Create a deep side part on one side and apply Bumble and bumble Thickening Hairspray throughout to eliminate frizz.
2. Work a blow-dry/volumizing product into the hair and blow-dry throughout using fingers rather than a brush for lived-in texture.
3. Start with hair on the smaller side of the side part from above the ear and create a roll, twisting the hair under itself all the way along the hairline, securing with pins until the crown.

4. With the larger side-sweeping section of hair, pull down around the roll and begin a braid just under the ear. Secure the braid under the twist at the nape of the neck with pins. Finish with Bumble and bumble Does it All.
