CAROLINA HERRERA SPRING/SUMMER 2018: BACKSTAGE

CAROLINA HERRERA SPRING-SUMMER 2018 060

Years ago, I photographed one of Carolina Herrera’s Bridal Fashion Week shows for BRIDES Magazine. And it was one of the most elegant shows I’ve ever attended. The Spring 2018 show was no different.

CAROLINA HERRERA SPRING-SUMMER 2018 035

Held in the Met Museum (the first time a fashion show has been allowed to take place inside!), the show was gorgeous and magical in a way I haven’t experienced since the final show by the late and great Oscar de la Renta.

Backstage, Morgan Taylor Lead Artist Gina Edwards designed the nail art look, which consisted of an elegant “cloud-like white” nail, created using “Heaven Sent” nail lacquer.

The finished look:

Makeup wise, MAC Cosmetics provided the beauty look, which focused on fresh smooth skin, and a kohl-rimmed eye.

Finishing things off, beauty wise, TRESemmé NYFW Stylist Odile Gilbert presented a “sleek is chic” smooth, straight hair look.

CAROLINA HERRERA SPRING-SUMMER 2018 010

To get the hair look:
Start by washing hair with TRESemmé Keratin Smooth Shampoo and Conditioner. Generously spray TRESemmé Keratin Smooth Heat Protect Spray to damp hair, and apply TRESemmé TRES Two Extra Hold Mousse to the roots (before blow drying!). Create a clean center part and blow-dry, use a curling iron to soften the ends and create subtle curve. Take the section of hair (before the ear) on each side and secure underneath the remaining hair with an elastic band at the nape of the neck. To finish, secure the look with TRESemmé TRES Two Freeze Hold Hair Spray for a neat and even consistency.

The collection was just as beautiful and elegant as one would expect from Carolina Herrera. Featuring bold, vibrant colors, embroidered gowns, and flirty tulle accents. I would wear almost every one of the stunning dresses presented.

TANYA TAYLOR S/S 2017

TANYA TAYLOR SPRING-SUMMER 2017 019

Tanya Taylor’s collections are always a riot of color. I’ve been following her line since almost the beginning of her career. And love that I can always look forward to seeing fantastic patterns, and bright colors in her designs each season. TANYA TAYLOR SPRING-SUMMER 2017 016

The Spring collection’s “island” inspiration was very apparent to the viewer. These were happy, vacation ready clothes, that just viewing made you want to jet off to a far off locale.

TANYA TAYLOR SPRING-SUMMER 2017 008

TANYA TAYLOR SPRING-SUMMER 2017 025

As strong as the clothing collection is, Tanya Taylor also consistently features fun, innovative beauty looks each season. While the hair and makeup was more relaxed, and vaction-y, the standout beauty feature of Spring was the funky rainbow wave nail art.

Morgan Taylor Lead Nail Artist Gina Edwards painted each nail with Morgan Taylor New School Nude as a base coat. Next, each tip with hand-painted with half-moon designs, using a selection of multiple Morgan Taylor polishes. Featured colors that were used include Orange You Glad, West Coast Cool, Ahead of the Game, Tropical Punch, Mint Chocolate Chip, Tokyo A Go Go, Sweet Escape, and Deja Blue.

Allen Wood for Bumble and Bumble led the hair team, who created the island friendly hair style, inspired by Tanya’s trips to Cuba and Capri. To get the look: “Mist Surf Spray onto small sections of hair and twist hair around the fingers, alternating the direction of the twist so hair doesn’t become uniform. Blow dry and scrunch hair to create an organic texture. Create a natural center part and tuck hair behind the ears. Once twists have cooled, break up hair by raking with fingers. Finish with Dryspun Finish throughout roots to add volume.” –Instructions via Bumble and Bumble.

SUNO F/W 2016: BACKSTAGE

SUNO FALL-WINTER 2016- BACKSTAGE 015 Beauty wise, SUNO is a brand known for having gorgeous, yet understated backstage beauty looks for its shows. Natural, but with a touch of quirky. For Fall, Odile Gilbert for Kérastase created a “graphic yet chic” ponytail, featuring velvet satin ribbon, to texturize models’ hair.

SUNO FALL-WINTER 2016- BACKSTAGE 007

To get the look:

1. Prep and wash hair with Nutritive Bain Satin 1 and Nutritive Lait Vital.
2. On damp hair, apply the NEW! L’Incroyable Blowdry Heat Lotion all over the hair and Crème de la Crème to just the ends.
3. Next, part the hair down the middle and roughly blow-dry. After dry, apply Powder Bluff at the roots (for greasy roots) or V.I.P (for extra volume).
4. Then, pull hair back into a low ponytail and secure with an elastic. Gently loosen hair around the nape of the neck to give a lived in, natural look.
5. Spray hair all over with Laque Dentelle.
6. Next, take ribbon and wrap the ponytail, crisscrossing the ribbon down the hair. Tie the ribbon once 3/4 of the way down the ponytail.
7. Finish the style by spraying Laque Dentelle all over for a flexible, versatile hold.

SUNO FALL-WINTER 2016- BACKSTAGE 014

NARS Director of Global Artistry James Boehmer created a clean, natural look that made the models appear “flushed and wind burned”, inspired by “aristocratic nomads”.

Products used to get the look include: On the face: NARSSkin Aqua Gel Luminous Oil-Free Moisturizer, Stick Concealer, Soft Velvet Loose Powder. On Cheeks: Leslie Audacious Lipstick On Brows: Oural Brow Gel On Lips: Unspeakable Velvet Lip Glide. Also dabbed on cheekbones and the forehead to create the sun-kissed look.

SUNO FALL-WINTER 2016- BACKSTAGE 012

To complete the look, Danielle Candido for Morgan Taylor created a dark, strong neutral nail.

To get the look: 2 coats of Latte Please were painted onto the model’s natural nails. The nail was then topped off with Need for Speed high shine top coat.

CHROMAT S/S 2016

CHROMAT- SPRING-SUMMER 2016 086

I absolutely love photographing the Chromat show every season. Watching the brand grow from a small lingerie line, to the powerhouse of design and innovation they are today has been quite a treat.

And it’s virtually guaranteed that each season’s show will feature heart-stopping beauty looks:

CHROMAT- SPRING-SUMMER 2016 026

Dominque Samuel for MAYBELLINE New York created a bright, colorful but still sporty look to complement the SS16 collection.

CHROMAT- SPRING-SUMMER 2016 011

To get the look:

Samuel perfected models’ skin with Fit Me! Matte + Poreless Foundation, followed by Face Studio Master Conceal. Next, DreamLumi Touch Highlighting Conceer was applied under eys and nose to reflect light. Face Studio Master Contour was used to shape and accentuate the face. Eye Studio Color Tattoo 24HR in Tenacious Teal was applied to create the blue brows. Lip Studio Color Blue in Cherry Cherry Bang Bang was applied under eyes, with Baby Lips Moisturizing Lip Gloss in Taupe with me applied to add shine to the upper lids. One coat of The Falsies Push Up Drama Mascara finished the eye makeup, with Baby Lips Balm applied to lips to complete the look.

KAREN WALKER S/S 2016

Untitled

Karen Walker impresses me season after season with her fun, quirky take on clothes that are– gasp!– actually wearable. While I love avant garde fashion, or flowing gorgeous ballgowns as much as the next girl, it’s nice to see impeccably designed clothing that is suitable for everyday wear, and affordable.

Untitled
The fact that designs some of the best sunglasses around also helps.

And like many of my other favorite designers, Karen has fun with her collections’ themes and inspiration. For Spring, that inspiration was “life in Zvedzny Gorodok, AKA Star City” in the Soviet Union. Once a secret city where Soviet astronauts lived, little details such as spate suite-esque zippers, utilitarian garments, and star shaped earrings helped visualize that inspiration.

The Sephora PRO team translated the astronaut/space theme into a glam look, featuring an enchanting blue eye.

DESIGUAL S/S 2016: BACKSTAGE

SPRING-SUMMER 2016- DESIGUAL 042

DESIGUAL definitely wins the award for funkiest show of the season. With “Japanese Street Fashion” inspired hair, collaged blue jean nails, and an on trend coral lip, the backstage beauty for the SS16 show stood out amongst the straight hair, and neutral beauty looks commonly found among the rest.

SPRING-SUMMER 2016- DESIGUAL 035

Edward Lampley for amika created the two fun, braided hair styles for the show.
One, a more traditional corn row style, and a second winding zig-zag braid style, were distributed amongst the models.

THOM BROWNE SPRING/SUMMER 2015

Karen Walker S-S 2015 NYFW 084A

I think it’s safe to say Thom Browne is my favorite show of every NYFW season. There really is nothing else like it, and I’m stunned over and over again that it even takes place in New York, and not in Paris during Couture week.

Karen Walker S-S 2015 NYFW 003A

One of the things I enjoy the most about this show is seeing so many different parts of what goes into putting on this show. From the hair and makeup, to the finishing touches being sewn onto the garments. Everything combines to create a completely unique fashion week experience.
