KATE SPADE S/S 2014

Kate Spade S-S 2014 -036

Kate Spade’s presentations are always one of my “don’t miss” shows of fashion week. Quirky hair and makeup, spectacular nails by Deborah Lippmann, and of course, the cute, whimsical clothes and handbags are inspiring season after season.

For Spring, Creative Director Deborah Lloyd was influenced by a European Tour, and frequent Kate Spade muse the 1960’s.

The 60’s influence was visible in the unique black and white cat eye, created by JOUER’s Neil Scibelli.

To get the look:

Apply JOUER Matte Moisture Tint to face, and set with Mattifying Translucent Powder. Cheeks were dusted with Mineral Powder Blush in “Peony”. For eyes, “Praline” Powder Eyeshadow was used on lids, with a cat eye created using Liquid Shimmer Eyeliner in “Panther” and white shimmer paint. After topping eyes with false lashes, the look was completed with “Kate” Lipstick, and “Blush” Moisturizing Lip Gloss.

Once again Deborah Lippmann created a fun, original look for the show’s nails. Inspired by a cap-toe show, the tips of each nail feature a silver design, with alternating colored stripes on each model.

To get the look: Start with Gel Lab Base Coat, then two coats of white shade Psuedo Silk Kimono. The tip of each nail is then painted in the silver shade Bad Moon Rising. Finally, an accent color is added to the end of the tip in It’s Raining Men (red), Groove is in the Heart (pink), or Walking on Sunshine (yellow).

In the end, everything came together to showcase an adorable, flirty European inspired collection.

KATE SPADE F/W 2013

Kate Spade Fall-Winter 2013- Backstage 036Kate Spade Fall-Winter 2013- Backstage 007

Not a brand to shy away from bold beauty, or overindulge in “neutrals” (one of the biggest nyfw show crimes, in my opinion!) Kate Spade is season after season, one of my favorite backstages to document.

It’s just so good to attend a show that is FUN! With equally fun hair and makeup.

Kate Spade F/W 2012: Backstage

KATE SPADE F-W 2012 64

Kate Spade’s f/w 2012 collection is the epitome of Parisian Chic. Cute without being overly saccharin, I found myself wanting to toss my mostly black wardrobe, and embrace all things girly and whimsical.

Backstage before the show, I caught up with Deborah Lippmann, who designed the show’s nail art in collaboration with show stylist Brad Goreski.

The very French-inspired nails were prepped by Deborah, 24hours before the show. Deborah Lippmann’s “Fade to Black” was painted on almond shaped nails, as a base color, after which a nail brush was used to dot on dabs of “I’m Not Innocent” to create the polka dot effect.

Stylists Creighton Bowman and Matthew Monzon for René Furterer used clip on bangs to create a graphic, mannequin like effect for the hair.

To get the look:
1. Hair was prepped with Naturia Dry Shampoo
2. Fioravanti Shine Enhancing No Rinse Detangling Spray was used to create shine, and smooth hair.
3. Hair was spritzed with Glossing Spray, then smoothed with a flat iron to create a glass-like effect.
4. Clip-on bangs, from Helena Collection, were applied to some models’ hair. (Bangs were trimmed before application, to look more natural.)
5. Vegetal Finishing Spray was used to create extra hold, and ensure the fake bangs stayed attached.
6. Finally, Myrrhea No Rinse Silkening Fluid was rubbed between the stylist’s palms and applied to the ends of hair.

I adored everything about the f/w collection. Once the models were prepped and the looks were complete, it was fun to see how each aspect of the look tied together. Case in point: a LOT of polka dots!
