Summer 2013 Press

As you may have noticed by my lengthy absence, things are crazy here in hot, humid, NYC. I’ve spent my summer being quite the busy little bee, and am now about to once again begin prepping for fashion week— just over a month away!

Along with some truly wonderful shoots I’ve been able to take part in, two very very cool things happened this spring/summer:

I photographed 5 bridal market week shows for BRIDES Magazine. Two of which ended up being featured as full-page images in the current Aug/Sept ’13 issue!!

Now that the issue is out, expect more photos from each of the 5 bridal shows to debut here soon. In addition to Oscar de la Renta Bridal, which can be seen here.

In more ODLR news, I was absolutely overjoyed to find out two of my Resort ’13 show images were featured in this inspiring mini-documentary about Oscar himself. Filmed as an introduction to the exhibit currently on display at the Clinton Library, in Little Rock, Arkansas. You can catch my photos near the end of the video, at the 8:12 (runway finale) and 8:14 (oscar clapping with model) marks.

Bridal Market Week 2014: Sneak Peek

Backstage at Oscar de la Renta Bridal

Over the last 4 days, I’ve shot about 5 shows during NYC’s 2014 Bridal Market Week. I’m excited to share that I’ve been covering backstage beauty for BRIDES Magazine and The Daily. I’ll post more details once the online coverage, and the issue of BRIDES comes out. But needless to say, it’s been an exciting week! Looking forward to sharing what I consider some of the most beautiful backstage photos I’ve ever shot.

Yesterday, instead of  dreading another manic Monday, I spent my morning deeply submerged in the world of Oscar de la Renta Bridal.

Oscar de la Renta Bridal 2013 61

This was my very first Bridal show, which I can say was even more magical than a “regular” fashion show. I was one of three photographers given a unprecendented 3+ hours of show access, chosen to “Live Pin” the show on Pinterest. The project totally blew up on twitter, and has resulted in some pretty crazy press.

Everything about the show was beautiful. From the so gorgeous you could cry dresses, to the flowers– and little flower girls– even the always on point musical choices. I’ve long felt that Oscar can do no wrong, but seeing all the lacy, delicate and intricately detailed bridal gowns up close and personal just proved to me what a mastery the man has of his craft. Some of my other favorite designers still have occasional seasons of “misses”. But never, ever Oscar.

I absolutely love love loved that “something blue” was incorporated into the show. As one Pinterest commenter mentioned, a handful of the looks were very “Spanish Royalty”, which Oscar being Oscar, is oh so fitting.

Maybe it’s just my photojournalism education making me want to “keep it real”, but as usual, I’ve just done a subtle brightening of colors. A fashion show isn’t exactly the place to go mad abusing photoshop actions on your photos. And really, everything was already so exquisite, why mess with perfection?

Below, more of my favorites from the Pinterest board, with a few never before seen shots thrown in for good measure.

Fur Fur Autumn/Winter 2010

Fur Fur,The Greyest Ghost

Recently while browsing Fall collections in The Fashion Spot’s message boards, I came across Fur Fur. The name sounded familiar to me, and I realized I’d seen a Fur Fur cardigan on Jane from Sea of Shoes.

I’m a total lace junkie. My taste in clothing has always skewed a little bit towards goth, and Victorian. Jane’s unique piece caught my eye because of the way it combined lace and other fabrics to create a cardigan that looked as if it was made of deconstructed vintage pieces from the 19th century.

“Named after creator Aya Furuhashi, fur fur began in 2005 under the name FUR. The label was first centered around “action painting and handmade creation”. It broadened focus in 2006, when it was launched as an independent fashion brand. The name was changed to fur fur in 2008. Furuhashi’s designs are very feminine and Japanese, often embodying mori girl and vintage aesthetics…”

Fur Fur’s Autumn/Winter religion inspired collection focuses heavily on wedding gowns and bridal wear:

Unfortunately, it looks like Fur Fur is currently only sold in Japan. (Another thing to add to the mental list of reasons to go–a list I started when I was a Sanrio obsessed 7 year old.) For more info on why newer Japanese designers have difficulties selling outside of their native country, see the recent NY TIMES article that profiled Fur Fur, amongst other brands.
