HONOR Fall-Winter 2015 025

Since their NYFW debut 5 years ago, HONOR has become one of the most reliable brands around for gorgeous, whimsical womenswear. For Fall 2015, designer Giovanna Randall was inspired by the forest, a theme which presented itself in both the collection, and the show’s set design. Both of which completely blew me away.

Backstage, the inspiration was classic Catherine Deneuve, with 70’s inspired hair, and girlish headbands featured on models.

HONOR S-S 2015 NYFW 063

HONOR is one of those special NYC based brands that I’ve been following almost since their inception. Back in 2011, I shot their second show ever, and fell in love with their unique mix of whimsy, and retro sensibility.

Such a fun fabric!

Each season, they create and incredibly detailed inspiration story behind the collection. For Spring, the story was as follows:

“A beautiful debutante falls in love with a George Harrison-type bad boy. They go on a physical and spiritual “trip” together. She finally realizes she has fallen for a bad person and begins to untangle herself from him. She is stronger for her experience.”

For the beauty look, this translated into a relaxed low ponytail, bold blue winged eyeshadow, and a fun blue and pearl nail.

HONOR S/S 2013

HONOR SS13 113

HONOR’s Giovanna Randall is a breath of fresh air in the NY fashion world. Showing collections that would be equally at home on the runways of Paris, she continues to impress me with her talent, and growth as a (very!) new designer.

For Spring, the HONOR collection was inspired by nature, and human anatomy. Taking this interpretation literally, was Deborah Lippmann for Beauty.com.

“We created a gorgeous high-gloss white nail that was actually bone-inspired. We wanted a natural nail that still captured the essence of the collection, and came up with a killer combination.” –via Deborah Lippmann’s tumblr.

HONOR S/S 2012: Backstage

HONOR Spring 2012-33

HONOR’s Spring 2012 collection was one of the most delicate, girly collections– and biggest hits– of the season. After being told how very girly the collection was, Designer Giovanna Randall decided to juxtapose “imperfect” elements alongside the polished feminine pieces. “I decided to go all the way and make it ultra feminine, but also with something slightly ‘off.’ I had a vision of creating an army of angry dolls that had been played with too much, not precious dolls that sit on a shelf.”

Backstage, Catherine Deneuve was a key inspiration.

Bumble and Bumble’s James Pescis created a youthful 60’s inspired ponytail.

To get the look: Hair was sprayed with Bumble and Bumble Prep, and Thickening Spray, then blown dry.

HONOR Spring 2012-4

Hair was styled with a severe side part, covering the forehead and the edge of one eye. Hair was then sprayed with Bumble and Bumble Dry Shampoo for texture, and pulled back into a loose low ponytail at the back of the head. To finish, hair was brushed through using the stylist’s hands, and topped off with Spray de Mode.

Eyelashes were coated with many, many applications of Larger Than Life Lengthening Mascara and Larger Than Life Volumizing Mascara. Said Boehmer “When you think you’ve got enough mascara, add two more coats.” To finish the look, Pure Matte Lipstick in Valparaiso was applied to lips.

The retro inspired dresses were a large part of the reason this was one of my very favorite collections of the season. I’m only sad I overbooked myself that afternoon, and didn’t get a chance to shoot the runway show as well!

HONOR: Fall/Winter 2011 Backstage

HONOR FALL 2011 (99)

James Pecis for Bumble and Bumble created a glam, Parisian look for HONOR’s Fall 2011 show, inspired by designer Giovanna Randall’s childhood trip to a closing Caldor department store.

HONOR FALL 2011 (1)
The overall style is very 1970’s: straight, with a slight curl at the bottom.

To get the look:
Mist hair with Bumble and Bumble Thickening Spray, then blow dry to add body.

HONOR FALL 2011 (8)

Hair was then curled and pinned up to create a “classic set”. When pins are removed, brush hair extensively to create a “static lightness”. Finish with Spray de mode hair spray.

HONOR FALL 2011 (21)

The romantic by “slightly punky” makeup look was created by NARS Cosmetics International Lead Makeup Artist James Boehmer.

HONOR FALL 2011 (27)

To get the look:
Start with Sheer Glow foundation on the face. Use “Sex Appeal” blush to add a glow to cheeks.

HONOR FALL 2011 (5)

For eyes: Boehmer used a variation of two blushes, “Exhibit A” and “Taj Mahal” , applied over “Red Square” Velvet Matte Lip Pencil. Triple X Lipgloss was applied to lids to add additional shine. Finish off the eye with Via Vento Larger Than Life longwear eyeliner, and Larger Than Life Lengthening Mascara.
