Today I had the pleasure of spending the afternoon shooting behind the scenes images at Katie Gallagher’s Fall/Winter 2016 collection press preview at The Roxy Hotel, in Tribeca.
Entitled “Veiled”, the monochromatic collection was influenced by Gothic architecture, stained glass, Harry Clarke illustrations, and Gallagher’s own very first collection “Veil” from Spring/Summer 2010.
I’ve photographed Katie’s shows every season for the last 6 years, and it was even more exciting to see the line than usual, and to spend multiple hours noticing the subtle details, and craftsmanship of the garments.
It’s been wonderful to see Katie grow as a designer over the years, and finally be recognized for all her hard work. I’m excited to see what the future has in store for her!
I’ve been wanting to do a photo shoot with my friend Rhyannon pretty much since the day we met. I can’t remember the exact day, but considering there was still snow on the ground, I know it’s been quite a while. Friday, our schedules finally converged and we made it happen.
Preparing for the shoot.
Rhyannon’s style is very similar to my own back when I was in high school. For lack of a better word, it’s goth. Recently, she’s been highly influenced by the character Lydia Deetz in “Beetlejuice”. She reminds me of a cross between Lydia and Roison Murphy. I see a bit of Kate Winslet in her eyes too.
Most of what she wears is vintage or clothing she inherits from friends. Together, we styled her own wardrobe mixed in with a few of my accessories like sunglasses and jewelry to create these looks.

Rather than playing dress up, we set out to document her own style and personality.
I’ve decided against removing my reflection from her sunglasses.
On Monday the 15th, I attended Rad Hourani’s fall/winter 2010 fashion show at MILK studios. I found out the night before at 1am that I was invited– so excited to get that last minute email! I had a standing ticket, but ended up claiming a 3rd row seat right before the show started. My seating position made video seem like the best choice, so I filmed the show with my flip cam:
The show soundtrack is “Black Planet” by Sisters of Mercy.
Thank you Rad for encouraging my coat and black clothing obsessions. My inner goth child rejoiced! I would wear everything in this amazing unisex collection. Even the coats with what appear to be built in backpacks. Many items are convertible (like in the designer’s diffusion line), and everything is black, or navy so dark it nearly appears black.
