NYFW Street Style: Julia Frakes

I’ve been a busy bee editing the fall shows for the past few days, but should finally be sharing some more images today! One of the shows I’m most excited to post: Oscar de la Renta. Seeing it with my own eyes was really just a dream come true. As a little teaser, here is the one (and only!) street style photo I shot this season. Miss Julia Frakes leaving the ODLR show:

Always such a cutie, Julia is also incredibly sweet, and happy to pose (I actually caught her in the midst of a shoot with another, much more demanding photographer). I’m loving the various floral patterns she’s combined for this look. Stay tuned for a full post of backstage and runway images from Oscar. I promise they are well worth the wait. : )

United Bamboo Cat Calendar Launch Party

Last week, Creatures of Comfort hosted a launch party, and auction for United Bamboo’s 2011 Cat Calendar. The calendar features photos of incredibly human-like cats, wearing miniature outfits from United Bamboo’s collection. I thought all of the prints were ridiculously cute. I’m not even that fond of cats (I’m a total dog person!), but found myself coveting one of the photos.

The entire gallery of prints was up for sale in a silent auction.

A “cat” bar tender.

A DJ entertained guests as they shopped and bid on the prints.

You can purchase the calendar at United Bamboo’s web site, and the Creatures of Comfort store. Bidding on the calendar prints continues at the store until December 1st.

Rachel Antonoff F/W 2010: The Mystery at Lafayette House

Rachel Antonoff 26

Last Saturday, I attended the Rachel Antonoff Fall/Winter 2010 show at Lafayette House in the East Village. This season, the presentation was set up as a “murder mystery”.

Upon entering, guests were handed a “list of suspects”:

The story surrounds a murdered ballerina who had left behind a roster full of ex-lovers, jealous coworkers, and stalkers, all dressed in Antonoff’s newest collection of gorgeous dresses and separates.

Upon moving through the rooms, you encounter more suspects, some searching desperately for clues of the victim’s demise, and others looking rather pleased with the current situation.

I loved the “mystery at Lafayette house”. Another whimsical and ultra girly collection from Antonoff, and one of the best and most original presentations I attended all week!

In addition to photos, I shot a video walk-through of the entire presentation:

I can’t wait until next season to see what kind of presentation Rachel comes up with next!

Rachel Antonoff Plays Dress Up

09.09.09-Rachel Antonoff (27) The designer, with her new collection

One of the few remaining fashion week events I’ve yet to post about is Rachel Antonoff’s S/S 2010 presentation.

This review was originally scheduled to appear on another web site, but since mis-communication struck that down, I though I’d share it–and all of the photos I shot of the collection– with my readers here.

On the “unofficial” first night of NYFW, Rachel Antonoff presented her spring 2010 collection in a fully packed theater at Chinatown’s Henry Street Playhouse. The theatrically themed collection was presented in the round, on a stage that, unbeknownst to Rachel when she’d chosen the venue, her own Grandmother once graced.

The gorgeous collection, inspired by “playing dress up”, was worn by a troupe of pretend ballerinas, orchestra players, aerialists, and tumblers. Models read books, played cards, swung on swings, and danced on balance beams while Oldies, 1960’s French tunes, and Judy Garland musicals filled the air.

The retro inspired clothing was dominated by shades of pastel colors. Complimented by models accessorized with bright blue eye shadow, big glasses, and bunches of flowers in their hair.

Notable faces at the event: actress Alia Shawkat, friend and muse of Antonoff, who graced the stage modeling in the “Star’s Dressing Room” scene. And singer Nicole Atkins, who was spotted checking out the collection with a small entourage of friends.
