Style Week: Jamaica

As many of you may have already heard, I went to Kingston, Jamaica last month to photograph Style Week Jamaica for StyledOn. The awesome team over at Fashion Art Gallery brought creative director Casey and I, along with an entire crew of stylists, journalists, designers, and hair stylists to Jamaica for a long weekend covering the event.

Our long weekend in Jamaica was chock full of beach and pool time, good drinks, and surprisingly great fashion. I ended up shooting nearly five thousand photos on our trip (despite breaking my favorite 50mm lens a few days prior.) Here is part one of the photos I shot the first few days of our trip.

At the airport we were greeted by a massive Style Week billboard.

We got in to Jamaica around midnight, but still made a pit stop at a local bar before heading to our hotel.

Models painted gold at Tracks & Records in Kingston.

We met up with Claire from The Fashion Bomb, who was looking fabulous!

We had a very late dinner at a local jerk chicken fast food restaurant (which was way more exciting and better tasting than American fast food), then totally crashed at the hotel.
The next morning, we had a leisurely day at the pool, relaxing and recovering from our previous day of travel.

It didn’t take long for me to find my new favorite drink, the “Purple Rain”.

Some local fashion. Women in Jamaica were very big on jewelry.

The gilded makeup was done by Napoleon Perdis, who used loose yellow dust, and gold leaf on the lips.

VERDICT: Baroque glam. Like nothing I’ve ever seen before! LaQuan might still be taking baby steps in the design world, but he is definitely an up and coming talent, with a name to watch out for.

Nails were done by Naomi Yasuda, whom I was told “stayed up all night the night before the show” gluing the embellishments onto artificial nails.
