JEREMY SCOTT F/W 2016: BACKSTAGE

JEREMY SCOTT FALL-WINTER 2016 037

Backstage at Jeremy Scott — one of the most fun– and happy shows of fashion week, the mood was pure excitement. With as much careful consideration given to the beauty looks as the clothes, the big hair and bright makeup I found was definitely not disappointing. Eugene Souleiman, Global Creative Director Wella Professionals, created an over the top, “slightly Barbarella” inspired big hair look.

JEREMY SCOTT FALL-WINTER 2016 015

JEREMY SCOTT FALL-WINTER 2016 017

To get the look: “Eugene started by prepping the hair using EIMI Sugar Lift with EIMI Perfect Setting on the ends. Over-applying the product gave the hair a chemically processed texture, making it easier to style and giving it the fifties look that is synonymous with classic pin-up style. On creating the look, Eugene shares: ‘We blew the hair out at the roots with EIMI Sugar Lift to give us a great base for the backcombing. It makes the hair feel a little bit more porous and processed which is wonderful for keeping volume.'”

JEREMY SCOTT FALL-WINTER 2016 009

“Once the hair was dried using a large round brush, it was left to set in wide rollers before being brushed out.”

JEREMY SCOTT FALL-WINTER 2016 024 “Eugene applied EIMI Stay Essential hairspray to hold the style and teased the hair to make it even bigger. At the end of the day, perfect pin-up hair was the finishing touch that brought together the Barbie-esque, decades-inspired ‘Cowboys and Poodles’ runway look.” -Instructions via WELLA Professionals

MAC Cosmetic’s Key Makeup Artist, Kabuki (one of my favorite makeup geniuses of NYFW!) created a “Cowgirls in Space” pin up inspired look to compliment the funky collection. “I wanted the look to feel fresh, and very Jeremy Scott”. Bright pink lips were the focal point of the look, with a swipe of custom mixed electric blue eyeliner to enhance the eye.

Last but not least, another one of my favorite backstage pro’s: Simcha Whitehill, AKA Miss Pop Nails, envisioned a stunning bright pastel nail look for each model. JEREMY SCOTT FALL-WINTER 2016 012

“To complement Jeremy Scott’s Spring 2016 collection, Miss Pop used a line up of our five best bright lacquer shades. She painted elongated oval nail tips in each of the five shades, then added a cartoon-like flare on the pinkies in Alpine Snow to give the nails a shiny plastic look.” – Via OPI

Colors used include: Shorts Story, A Good Mandarin is Hard to Find, The Sun Never Sets, I just can’t Cope-Acabana, and To Infinity and Blue-yond. “One coat of one of each of those shades and then one coat of Kyoto pearl to get this muted metallic bright.” – Via Miss Pop

Chris Benz Resort 2013 Photo Shoot: Behind the Scenes

Chris Benz’s Garment District studio is a magical place. Just as quirky and colorful as the clothing, and the designer himself.

One could spend hours browsing the art work, and knick knacks displayed throughout the workspace.

Like his past collections, Chris Benz’s Resort 2013 offerings were bright, fun, and print heavy. It’s easy to see why this young designer is one of my very favorites in all of NYC!

Chris’ trademark pink hair. We bonded over the trials and tribulations of having brightly colored hair. (Mine was partially purple, that day.)IMG_6047
I’m convinced Chris Benz is one of the nicest designers currently working in fashion.

I also got a quick peek at Chris’ S/S 2013 inspiration board. What I saw was gorgeous, and very exciting. Which reminded me why his collections are consistent favorites of mine, every single fashion week.

Preen S/S 2012

Preen Spring-2012_350

Preen’s S/S ’12 show was one of the most surprisingly beautiful shows I attended all season. I knew to expect an elegant collection, but left the show completely blown away by just how gorgeous and colorful everything was! Every aspect of the show, from the silhouettes of the dresses to the hair gave me a sense of an updated, neon, neo-Victorian meets 1940’s by way of “Blade Runner” vibe.

The hair, by Paul Hanlon for AVEDA was a geisha-inspired, but reminiscent of a modern, youthful update of the popular 1940’s Victory Rolls style.

HAIR STEP-BY-STEP BY PAUL HANLON FOR AVEDA
1. Prep hair by spritzing throughout with Aveda Volumizing Tonic, blow dry with a round brush. Work hair away from the face and neck to keep the hairline clean. If hair is dry or damaged, begin by prepping with Aveda Brilliant Damage Control, and follow with Aveda Volumizing Tonic.
2. Once dry, gently brush hair away from the face and let hair part naturally on the left side. Smooth hair with a fine-toothed comb and a light mist of Aveda Air Control Hair Spray.
3. On the right side of the head at the top of the ear, begin to twist hair toward the back of the head, staying just on top of the parietal ridge. Use a tail comb to neatly bring hair up into the roll, and secure the roll with “U” pins. Avoid twisting too tightly at this point.

Preen Spring-2012_224

4. Continue twisting toward the back of the head following the natural hairline. Twist all the way to the nape, secure hair with a clip.
5. Repeat twist on the left side, starting slightly lower, one to two inches above the top of the ear, sloping downward at the back of the head to create a “U” shape when twists meet at the nape.
Preen Spring-2012_202

6. Neatly brush hair upward from the hairline to create a seamless connection between the two twists. This gives the appearance of a single, smooth, twisted roll that snugly wraps around the head.
7. Use Aveda Air Control Hair Spray and the end of a tail comb to smooth all wisps and flyaways while replacing “U” pins with bobby pins, snugly tucked and hidden.
8. Finish with Aveda Brilliant Spray-On Shine. — Via AVEDA

Paul also explained an easy way for the average woman to replicate this style– by twisting 2 ponytails near the front of the head, rolling, and pinning. Secure the style with Paul’s favorite product: AVEDA Air Control, a dry hairspray.

The retro inspired collection was modernized beautifully by the use of bright, showstopping color, and digital prints.

“This collection is a modern take on Victorian aesthetics. Flowers are digitized; colors and lines are defined by the way light reflects and refracts through a prism. The result is an intersection of romance and pure modernity.” — Thea Bregazzi for Preen

L.A.M.B. Pink Etoile Hobo

l.a.m.b,etoile,the greyest ghost

My dream bag, that I’ve wanted since seeing photographs of it last September at the l.a.m.b presentation (which I posted about here), has finally arrived!

l.a.m.b,etoile,the greyest ghost
Closer View.

I pre-ordered the neon pink hobo from my friend Erica’s awesome Chicago area boutique Tenacity. Tenacity always stocks the newest and best l.a.m.b bags (and clothing!). Looks like the Etoile was so popular it’s already sold out at Tenacity, but you can still snag a few of the smaller pink bags in different styles.

The bag is made of buttery soft logo embossed leather. Shopbop has the pink Etoile still in stock here.

The best thing about this bag: the blinding pink color. Stock photos are not doing this bag justice. It will get you noticed. I carried mine last week when I went to see Alice and Wonderland, and got stares left and right on the subway. The Etoile is also HUGE. It’s 13×16! Pink bags seem to be “in” every spring, but this is seriously the definitive pink handbag. I’m going to be carrying this baby for a long time.
