THOM BROWNE F/W 2016

THOM BROWNE FALL-WINTER 2016 066

It should be pretty clear by now to anyone who reads this site occasionally, that Thom Browne is my favorite fashion designer currently showing in New York. More spectacle than traditional fashion show, his shows are my hands down favorite, can’t miss event of each season.

For Fall, the collection was inspired by “a walk in the park”– meaning Washington Square Park– circa one hundred years ago. Hair, usually styled more outlandishly season by season, was quite tame, allowing for the impeccable hats by Stephen Jones to shine instead. A vivid blue eyeshadow look brightened up the models’ pale faces.

According to Bumble and Bumble Lead Stylist Jimmy Paul, the hair style had a bit of a retro inspiration. “There’s a slight 1920s reference to the hair. Thom wanted the head as small as possible so we discussed ways to keep the hair close to the head. We’re essentially doing a wig wrap, the same way you’d prep the hair before putting on a wig. We’re going to make a headband with the hair and we’re using enough hairspray to make it look wet and actually stick.”

THOM BROWNE FALL-WINTER 2016 002

To get the hair look: Jimmy used a traditional wig wrap technique to get the hair as tight to the head as possible. Wrapping the hair from one ear around the head, the hair was wet down with Thickening Hairspray to give the hair hold.

To finish, Jimmy applied Bb.Gel for shine. –Instructions Via Bumble and Bumble.

Nails were painted in a pastel rainbow of colors. Lead manicurist Julie Kandalec, using ESSIE polish, created the look. The colors used (alternating on different models) were: Allure, Bikini so Teeny, Muchi Muchi, and Petal Pusher.

MAC Cosmetics’ genius makeup artist Sil Bruinsma (a frequent Thom Browne collaborator) remixed a classic 1920’s smokey eye, using bright vibrant blue eyeshadow.

Delpozo S/S 2014

Delpozo S-S 2014 -004

Delpozo’s SS14 show, the brand’s second since relaunching the label in 2012, was one of the most breathtaking shows of the season. The best fashion shows, in my opinion, are always those that imbue a sense of magic or whimsy, which this collection had in spades. Leading to it quickly climbing to the top of my SS14 favorites list!

Delpozo S-S 2014 -005
The bright pops of color on the model’s eyes provided a nice contrast to the sweet, dreamy dresses in the collection.

Delpozo S-S 2014 -001

The hair for the show, created by Moroccanoil Artistic Director Antonio Corral Calero mixed volume with sleekness, presenting the look as a smooth ponytail, with heavy volume on top. Hair was both simple, and unique amongst the many looks of SS14.

To get the look: Moroccanoil Treatment was used to prep hair, which was then parted in the middle, flat ironed, and tied off in a ponytail. Hair was then backcombed from middle to ends, about 4″ above the ponytail. To finish, models’ locks were smoothed into a rounded shape and topped off with Moroccanoil Luminous Hairspray Medium.

The finished look:

Inspired by the Corot painting “Gypsy Woman with Tambourine”, and stained glass windows, the clothing was equally as beautiful as the hair and makeup:

The collection, which struck me as at once both old-fashioned and modern, would be just as at home on a red carpet as it would on a woman walking down the aisle at her wedding.

Fashion’s Night Out 2012

IMG_4319

Much like last year, I had a fun, magical FNO on the UES of Manhattan at the Oscar de la Renta store with friends, a great band, and Oscar himself. Oh, and a lovely actress you may recognize. 😉

IMG_4234

It was over in the blink of an eye. But I had so much fun, between the event, and my daily shows, I’m now exhausted, and having trouble keeping my eyes open long enough to write this! I’m going to let the photos speak for themselves again, because really, what more is there to add?

Memorial Day at Coney Island

Coney Island 9

Yesterday, along with half the population of New York City, I went to Coney Island. I was already exhausted after a long weekend with friends, the trains were hot and crowded, and the beach and boardwalk much the same. Not the best day for me to be around thousands of shoving strangers. The two friends I was due to meet up with got into a fight and left right after I arrived.

Coney Island 12

Thankfully after wandering around taking some photos and hanging out on the Boardwalk for a bit, my friend Kristabel arrived and saved the day. We didn’t hang out for much longer, but had a few laughs at the world’s worst street style (someone needs to document that asap. I was much too scared!), and strange men who barked like dogs and yelled in spanglish. After picking up some souvenirs, we headed home.

At least I got some fun photos in the midst of all the chaos:

Coney Island 6
Only after I was home editing my photos did I notice the hilarity I’d captured in the forefront of this photo. Two men who’s pants are pretty much falling off.

Coney Island 7
This wasn’t even half of the beach crowd!

Coney Island 4

While we waited in line to buy water, we made a new friend:

He was completely and utterly bonkers.

I love Coney Island, but next time, I’m not going on a holiday weekend!
