This season’s phenomenal nail look from longtime Blonds collaborators CND was inspired by the theme of good vs evil, and “Lucifer as a powerful woman”. Frescos, Red spikes, and studs made frequent appearances, in both the nail art and clothing.

KATIE GALLAGHER F/W 2018: SHOW AND LOOKBOOK SHOOT

Earlier this year I had the pleasure of documenting behind the scenes at the look book photo shoot for Katie Gallagher’s Fall/Winter 2018 collection “True Red”.

One of my favorite local designers, and someone I’ve been covering since my first ever season of NYFW, Katie’s designs continue to evolve and impress me more each season.

The clothing featured so many fun details this season. Lace up hats and leg adornments, cut outs, and as always, a lot of mesh and sheer panels.

In February, Katie presented the full collection at Mail Room, in downtown NYC. It was perfectly complemented by the dark, cavernous space. Featuring a set decorated by roses, and vintage candelabras.

LIBERTINE SPRING/SUMMER 2018: BACKSTAGE

LIBERTINE SPRING-SUMMER 2018 029

Libertine’s NYFW shows are another reminder that yes, there are still SOME designers left showing in New york who take chances, and have fun with their collections and shows.

LIBERTINE SPRING-SUMMER 2018 021

Backstage, lead nail artist Heather Reynosa and the CND Design Lab created another standout, funky look that incorporated aspects of the eclectic “punk couture” collection. The nails were truly “wearable art”.

LIBERTINE SPRING-SUMMER 2018 004

Crystals, fringe, skulls, safety pins, bird heads, dollar signs, venus fly traps, vials of “blood”, and even miniature “pills” decorated the nails, which had been handcrafted over a 3 month period before the show.

THOM BROWNE F/W 2016

THOM BROWNE FALL-WINTER 2016 066

It should be pretty clear by now to anyone who reads this site occasionally, that Thom Browne is my favorite fashion designer currently showing in New York. More spectacle than traditional fashion show, his shows are my hands down favorite, can’t miss event of each season.

For Fall, the collection was inspired by “a walk in the park”– meaning Washington Square Park– circa one hundred years ago. Hair, usually styled more outlandishly season by season, was quite tame, allowing for the impeccable hats by Stephen Jones to shine instead. A vivid blue eyeshadow look brightened up the models’ pale faces.

According to Bumble and Bumble Lead Stylist Jimmy Paul, the hair style had a bit of a retro inspiration. “There’s a slight 1920s reference to the hair. Thom wanted the head as small as possible so we discussed ways to keep the hair close to the head. We’re essentially doing a wig wrap, the same way you’d prep the hair before putting on a wig. We’re going to make a headband with the hair and we’re using enough hairspray to make it look wet and actually stick.”

THOM BROWNE FALL-WINTER 2016 002

To get the hair look: Jimmy used a traditional wig wrap technique to get the hair as tight to the head as possible. Wrapping the hair from one ear around the head, the hair was wet down with Thickening Hairspray to give the hair hold.

THOM BROWNE FALL-WINTER 2016 001

To finish, Jimmy applied Bb.Gel for shine. –Instructions Via Bumble and Bumble.

Nails were painted in a pastel rainbow of colors. Lead manicurist Julie Kandalec, using ESSIE polish, created the look. The colors used (alternating on different models) were: Allure, Bikini so Teeny, Muchi Muchi, and Petal Pusher.

Since the very first time I saw photos of one of his collections back in 2009, I’ve been in love with Chris Benz.

Few designers do color and mix patterns and materials as well. His clothes are so colorful, viewing them is like injecting Crayola crayons directly into your veins.

His inspiration this season? “Andy Warhol’s superstars go to Coney Island, with a nod to candy kids.”

Fashion’s Night Out With Oscar de la Renta

Oscar de la Renta FNO: 21

When rumors of this year’s FNO events started swirling around, I wondered, what could I possibly do that would top spending the past two years of FNO with Gwen Stefani. Well tonight, I got my answer!

Thanks to the amazing ladies of Oscar de la Renta’s PR department, I got to spend Fashion’s Night Out watching Oscar himself, and a mariachi band sing to the crowd in his Madison Avenue boutique. The store was packed full of friends and admirers, but everyone was so happy and excited, it wasn’t as overwhelming as some FNO events can be.

Everyone was laughing, and cheering, and having fun. At one point, the crowd went wild. Assuming everyone was really excited for Oscar to begin singing again, I was shocked to look up and see Sarah Jessica Parker had made her way to the stage to be serenaded by Oscar.

After a few songs, both Sarah Jessica, and Oscar made lovely speeches, gushing over how much they admire each other. It was adorable, and almost made me a little teary eyed. When SJP was on her way out, I got to tell her the effect her speech had on me as she passed by, which she said was sweet.

Whatever these are, they were made with some of the best chocolate I’ve ever had in my life. And I don’t really even like chocolate!

Soon it was time for me to head home. I couldn’t believe it was just after 8pm– It’s been such a long day, it felt more like midnight. But it’s safe to say my FNO adventure might have been short, but it was definitely sweet. Like the past two years of FNO, I’ll be sure to remember tonight forever.

Fall/Winter 2011 NYFW at The Greyest Ghost

Well, it’s finally here! Over the next week, with the help of my awesome assistant photographer and old friend Maureen, The Greyest Ghost will be bringing you behind the scenes backstage, and runway shots from over 47 fashion shows. Posting–at least “in depth” posts– might be lite while we spend our days covering shows, and editing hundreds of images. And honestly, I’ll be resting as much as I can in my tiny bit of free time. Last season nearly killed me, and I’m still recovering from a bad bout of bronchitis, that’s left me with what feels like a lite case of asthma. (And really, everyone I know seems to have fallen ill right before FW started this season! The weather is horrible!) Despite our hectic schedules, we’ll be sure to share some sneak peeks every night, from each of the shows we’ve attend so far. You can also see some additional shots over at our tumblr.

While today was the first “official” day of NYFW, I got my start last night at Gary Graham’s presentation in Tribeca:

Gary Graham: F/W '11 Sneak Peek

Gary is an expert in layering, and always manages to make a good impression. I can’t wait to share more photos with you! ❤
