This season’s phenomenal nail look from longtime Blonds collaborators CND was inspired by the theme of good vs evil, and “Lucifer as a powerful woman”. Frescos, Red spikes, and studs made frequent appearances, in both the nail art and clothing.

CHROMAT S/S 2016

CHROMAT- SPRING-SUMMER 2016 086

I absolutely love photographing the Chromat show every season. Watching the brand grow from a small lingerie line, to the powerhouse of design and innovation they are today has been quite a treat.

And it’s virtually guaranteed that each season’s show will feature heart-stopping beauty looks:

Dominque Samuel for MAYBELLINE New York created a bright, colorful but still sporty look to complement the SS16 collection.

To get the look:

Samuel perfected models’ skin with Fit Me! Matte + Poreless Foundation, followed by Face Studio Master Conceal. Next, DreamLumi Touch Highlighting Conceer was applied under eys and nose to reflect light. Face Studio Master Contour was used to shape and accentuate the face. Eye Studio Color Tattoo 24HR in Tenacious Teal was applied to create the blue brows. Lip Studio Color Blue in Cherry Cherry Bang Bang was applied under eyes, with Baby Lips Moisturizing Lip Gloss in Taupe with me applied to add shine to the upper lids. One coat of The Falsies Push Up Drama Mascara finished the eye makeup, with Baby Lips Balm applied to lips to complete the look.

CHROMAT FALL/WINTER 2015

CHROMAT Fall-Winter 2015 069

CHROMAT is undoubtedly one of the most interesting brands showing at NY Fashion Week. Their shows are never just ‘models walking down a runway’. They’re a unique spectacle, showcasing some of the most innovative, and architectural clothing of the week. Who else uses glowing LCD lights strapped onto models’ clothing, and foreheads? No one.

Designer Becca McCharen keeps things fresh by reimagining and reinterpreting Chromat’s original cage lingerie and body garments in new ways each season. For fall, that included the addition of feathers, 3d printed jewelry, and more swimwear.

CHROMAT SPRING/SUMMER 2015

CHROMAT S-S 2015 NYFW 036

CHROMAT continues to awe audiences each season with their innovative, architecture inspired collections. One of the most hyped presentations of MADE Fashion Week, the brand never ceases to turn the fashion world on its head and reinvent the typical fashion show.

After featuring LED and wearable tech for the FW14 show, Chromat introduced a new plus size collection for SS15, and featured up and coming plus size models to showcase the line on the runway.

KAELEN Spring/Summer 2015

KAELEN S-S 2015 NYFW 030

WHO: KAELEN Spring 2015

WHAT: A floral inspired collection from CFDA Incubator program member Kaelen Haworth

KAELEN S-S 2015 NYFW 006

BACKSTAGE: Both the hair and makeup were inspired by the 1960’s, and Marcia Brady. MAC lead artist Chantel Miller created a “reverse cat eye”, by applying white shadow to the lower eyelid, and layering darker taupe eyeshadow nearly up to the brow. Cheeks were toned with taupe blush, eyebrows were brushed up, and no mascara was used. Concealer was applied to models’ lips right before the show began.

Adam Selman F/W 2014

Adam Selman- Fall-Winter 2014 006

Before every fashion week, I scour the internet searching for new designers to feature on this blog. Pouring through “designers to watch” lists, checking for interesting looking brands on instagram, and googling every unknown name on the fashion calendar is regular procedure for me.

One designer that caught my eye –based on the bright disco inspired eye makeup his models wore for the SS14 show– was Adam Selman. The clothes? Just as eye catching. And then I discovered he was Rihanna’s costume designer and friend. Yes, that Rihanna. Soon it all made sense.

Backstage, bright colors and playful patterns of the FW14 collection once again commanded my attention. I always personally prefer bright, fun, or edgy makeup on models (neutral beauty at a fashion show is boring!), and this show did not disappoint.

One of the first things I noticed: The nail art. Or rather, finger art:

Adam Selman- Fall-Winter 2014 005

An updated take on a french manicure, Nailing Hollywood nail artist Madeline Poole painted half of each nail with Chanel Nail Colour Polish in Black Satin. The henna inspired finger art was drawn on using Stila Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eye Liner in Black.

Hair stylist Duffy, using ORIBE products, created a loose, Snoop Dogg inspired braid to compliment the 1990’s slant of the collection.
