Adventures In DIY Studio Photography

Yea… so I’ve been MIA for a ridiculously long time. As usual, the universe has conspired to make my busiest periods, work wise, coincide with the craziest times in my life. I always take a bit of time off after Fashion Week. This season was no different– I spent two weeks in my hometown. As soon as I got back to NYC, I (this is embarrassing to even admit) damaged by nearly brand new macbook pro, rendering it nearly useless, and putting me out of commission for quite a long time. I’ve managed to get my old black macbook up and running again, so expect the last half of my NYFW posts, and some event coverage soon. And once it’s set up, a how-to post on building your own DIY at-home photo studio.

Until then, here is a teaser from my very first home studio shoot, which took place this past weekend. My friend, and long-time collaborator Casey Kettleson is working on a fun new personal project– more on that soon– and needed a photographer. Which ended up being the perfect occasion to test out my new lighting equipment. She rented a backdrop kit, and I trekked uptown to her apartment, for two days of fashion photography, and fun. While we were working on her project, we managed to get some fun new head shots to be used as promotional photos. Below, one of my favorites.

Instagram Weekend #2

I’m thinking of making this a regular feature, since I keep documenting my weekends via Instagram. It’s easier than carting my DSLR out, something I usually don’t want to do when I’m just hanging out with my friends. Some of these photos are from earlier in the week (I’m cheating!), but were fun enough to share anyway. I shot two editorials last week, so I just couldn’t resist sharing little sneak peeks.

My new Moo postcards that I got to promote my new work/new website came in:

Did some more experimenting with Sally Hansen Nail Effects:
Houndstooth Nails
The glitter, which held up for the entire length of NYFW back in February, seemed to be much more durable than the houndstooth.

On Wednesday, I shot a feature at Robert Verdi’s Luxe Lab for Styled On:

I couldn’t resist matching my new nails!

The space is full of amazing art, like this golden chandelier:

Robert has a TRUNK full of custom made Vans–constructed from his Hermes scarf collection!

More on that, when the feature goes live at Styled On.

When the weather got warmer, I broke out my 80’s sunglasses:

Friday, I shot another editorial for Styled On. Featuring these bad boys:

Afterward, we headed back to the office for some R&R and a great view:

After shooting some new street style on Saturday, I rewarded myself with a slice of Blue Velvet cake from Little Cupcake Bakeshop:

It was sooo good, but so rich. I could only eat half!

I finished off Saturday night at a friend’s birthday party in Brooklyn. The bar had plenty of fun things to photograph:

Gotta love bathroom graffiti.

Street Style: Styled On

Now that the weather is becoming relatively pleasant, I’m shooting street style again! As part of their newest feature, you can see a daily street style look shot by yours truly over at

I’m excited to see each day’s photo go live. In my opinion, this is some of my best street fashion photography yet! See this look, and more daily here.

Fall Fashion: Styled On

Styled On: Fall Fashion Editorial 1

I am absolutely head over heels for this Fall fashion editorial I shot for Styled On. The editorial went live Friday, and as soon as I arrived home to see it, I couldn’t stop playing the slide show over and over. I’ve been more than happy with every editorial I’ve shot so far, but this one has got to be my favorite.

Styled On: Fall Fashion Editorial 9

Starring Styled On members Leandra Medine—AKA Man Repeller, and Abbie Houck, it features plenty of red hot fall looks… and these are just sneak peaks!

Inside Oscar de la Renta’s Showroom

My collection of fashion week posts might not be anywhere complete on this blog, but I’m already so excited to show off some of my post-nyfw projects: Tomorrow, part two of my Oscar de la Renta editorial goes live at Styled On! This accompanying photo story features beautiful detail shots of the Spring 2011 Oscar de la Renta collection. The showroom was so amazing. I felt so lucky seeing and touching looks just days after they went down the runway. It was completely overwhelming being surrounded by so many gorgeous, painstakingly detailed gowns. And the accessories were just as mind blowing!

The Greyest Ghost Gets Styled On

Wednesday, I shot my very first editorial for Styled On! I don’t want to spoil the amazing shoot before it’s posted on the site, but I can say it was a totally amazing experience! We created some beautiful images together while shooting on location in DUMBO. I’ll be sure to link the full feature once it’s up. Until then, here’s an outtake:
