This season, Nine West and Modelinia have teamed up for an amazing fashion week charity project. Forty top models will be wearing Nine West’s special edition Runway Relief boots to and from castings and shows, while a pedometer inside the boots calculates each step. For every mile the models each walk, $10 is donated to Fashion Targets Breast Cancer.
I was lucky enough to get a behind the scenes peak at the campaign’s photo shoot last Tuesday and see the models in action.
Photographed by Nigel Barker, and featuring models such as Coco Rocha, Jessica White, and Michelle Alves, the shoot took place in New York City’s Meatpacking District on a sweltering hot 94 degree day. But the heat didn’t stop the models from wearing stylish leather jackets on top of their cute customized runway relief tees.
The models moved through a series of photo setups, walking back and forth between Nigel’s camera and their start point dozens of times. Luckily, they seemed to be enjoying themselves, and staying as cool as possible with plenty of water, and even a popsicle break!
After the completion of the larger group shots, the models got a short break, before a smaller group posed for one last shoot setup.
Before she left, I got a chance to chat with Coco and her husband James. Both were so incredibly sweet! Coco cheerfully posed for an Elle street style snap for me. And James snapped a few photos of us together–the first few had crazy shadows over our faces, until Nigel himself came over and repositioned us!

I had a great time on set, and really can’t support this initiative enough. I lost two family members of my own this past summer to cancer, so I think it’s wonderful that such an innovative and cool charity campaign exists to benefit such an important cause. Thanks so much to Nine West for inviting me to the photo shoot!
This video provides a lot of great information about the campaign, and why Nigel and some of the models chose to participate:
